What makes a good music video?

  • A clear genre. For example; a rock music video would show live footage, possibly include footage of fans, dark-ish colours to show the connotations of the lyrics or narrative.
  • Mise-en-scene such as costumes and lighting must be relevant to the genre for example, a pop video wouldn't generally be dark and people would be wearing dressy clothes rather than jeans and t-shirts.
  • The technicality of the video for example, editing must fit the pace of the song and match the beat otherwise it would look unprofessional.
